P300-MILLION FOR CAMP JOHN HAY UPGRADING
Baguio City, Feb. 8, 1998 - One of Baguio's top tourist attractions is getting a major facelift. Camp John Hay is pouring P300 million to upgrade its six-year-old golf course from par 68 to par 70 to meet international standards.
The Camp John Hay Golf Course development follows plans and specifications of the Jack Nicklaus design group. The project will be finished by December, in time for the annual Film-Am Golf Tournament.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has granted the Camp John Hay Development Corporation with an environmental clearance certificate.
"Having complied with all the requirements set by the DENR, we are glad that we finally received the go-signal to start with the project," said John Hay Chairman Robert John Sobrepena. "We will live up to our commitment of environmental protection and contribute to the enhancement of the quality of life in Baguio and surrounding communities.
The golf course renovation and construction of country homes and a golf clubhouse constitutes Phase 1 of the project.
