MANILA HOTEL REFLEETS, REFURBISHES
Manila, Feb. 5, 1998 - "La Grande Dame" is the term endearingly used for the Manila Hotel, still considered as the top sentimental choice of travellers to Manila. Today, on the threshold of a new century, the Manila Hotel is re-polishing its image and its physical facilities to meet the challenges of an ever-changing industry.
In 1995, the Supreme Court awarded ownership of 51% of the hotel to Manila Prince Hotel Corporation, which now shares ownership with 49% shareholder Government Service Insurance System. With that move, the Supreme Court thwarted a foreign takeover of a Philippine historical landmark.
The new owners immediately embarked on a full-scale modernization and refurbishing program. The hotel's fleet of luxury cars will soon be strengthened with the addition of new coasters and a catering van. The hotel's conference room, lobby and bathroom facilities will all be redone.
AT the same time, a more aggressive marketing approach has been adopted, with offices in Washington, New York, Dallas and San Francisco being set up simultaneously with sales offices in Hong Kong, London and Los Angeles.
