JAPANESE ROYALTY JOIN CENTENNIAL FETE
Manila, Feb. 1, 1998 - Prince Akishino and Princess Kiko of Japan will make a five-day visit to the Philippines in two weeks to attend festivities marking the centennial of Philippine independence.
The royal couple's trip to Manila will start Feb. 16 with a courtesy call on President Fidel Ramos at Malacanang.
The couple will attend the opening ceremony of the Japan-Philippines friendship festival on Feb. 17 to commemorate the centennial. The rest of their stay will involve visits to a vocational training facility for the handicapped, an orphanage and meetings with other dignitaries.
Prince Akishino is the younger son of Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, who visited the Philippines in 1963 when they were still crown prince and crown princess.
