Manila, Feb. 27, 1998 - Justice Secretary Silvestre Bello has ordered the re-computation of the remaining jail term of actor Robin Padilla for possible parole.
Bello issued the order to the Board of Pardon and Parole at the Department of Justice prepared a list of qualified candidates for parole or pardon.
Robin was admitted to the National Bilibid Prisons in Muntinglupa in August 1995 following his conviction by a Pampanga court for illegal possession of firearms.
He was sentenced to a maximum 21 years in prison, but the prison term was reduced last year to 10 years after the Illegal Possession of Firearms Law was amended lowering the jail term for violators.
Because of the amendment, Robin Padilla, having served more than one third of his sentence, could be eligible for parole.
Bello said Robin's release from prison will now depend on how fast the Supreme Court will act on Padilla's pending petition.
