Berlin, Germany, Feb. 24, 1998 - The 48th Berlin International Film Festival accorded a special award to the makers of the Filipino movie "Ang Lalake sa Buhay ni Selya" last Friday night.
The movie won two significant distinctions for the issues it tackled which the Philippine Movie and Television Review and Classification Board found objectionable.
The controversial movie starring Rosanna Roces was recognized "for its courageous portrayal of homosexuality in a constricted society." The group responsible for the film -- Carlitos Siguion-Reyna, Bibeth Orteza, Arminda Siguion-Reyna and Star Cinema -- was also cited for its stand against censorship in the Philippines.
The Berlin Film Festival jury is headed by international star, actor Ben Kingsley.
