Paranaque, Feb. 18, 1998 - His co-star in the TV sitcom "Palibhasa Lalake" is Paranaque Mayor Joey Marquez, which probably inspired comedian Anjo Yllana to run for councilor of Paranaque.
Like his idol, Anjo is running under the administration party LAKAS-NUCD, in the ticket of re- electionist Mayor Joey Marquez who has been mayor since 1995.
Political observers expect Anjo, with his popularity and clean image, to win overwhelmingly and even get the most number of votes for councilor. Paranaque voters will elect 12 Councilors, 6 each from the town's two districts.
"Even as a kid, I already thought of helping the poor. I was brought up to be of help to others. I can say that what I did to my family as breadwinner, I can do for the community," Yllana said.
He plans to concentrate on an anti-drug campaign if elected, beginning with a "react center" that would accept complaints from residents who are afraid to go directly to the police to report a drug-related crime.
Anjo also wants to build Paranaque's first center for street children, and initiate livelihood programs and sports programs for out-of-school youth.
