RUDY TURNS DOWN $50-M MATHAY OFFER
Quezon City, Feb.1, 1998 - The spokesman of action star Rudy Fernandez claims the actor turned down an offer from Quezon City Mayor Mel Mathay of P50 million to run as Mathay's vice mayoralty running mate.
Rudy Rivera, chairman of the Bangon Lungsod Quezon, told a press conference that Fernandez rejected the offer because of his firm intention to run for Q.C. mayor.
According to Rivera, Mathay made the offer during a meeting attended by his sister Precy Fernandez and San Juan Mayor Jinggoy Estrada at the Mario's Restaurant in Quezon City last week.
Fernandez is set to join the opposition coalition part Laban ng Makabayang Masang Pilipino, headed by former actor, Vice President Joseph Estrada. He expects to be named official candidate of LAMMP in Quezon City.
Rudy's running mate is another entertainment personality, QC Councilor Connie Angeles, who started her movie career as a child actress.
