INTERNATIONAL TOURISM EXPO BEGINS
Mandaluyong City, Jan. 29, 1998 - The Philippines' first international tourism conference and exhibition opened yesterday at the Shangri-La EDSA Plaza Hotel with hundreds of the top tourism businessmen and government officials from North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Organized by the Department of Tourism and the CRC Foundation, the 4-day expo is dubbed "Philippine Tourism Investment Opportunities (PTIO) '98" and is highlighted by business matching and networking among the participating foreign investors and Filipino property owners and developers.
For four days, there will be top-level project presentations by leading development consortia, research and industry analysis from economic experts and think-tank institutions, exhibits of tourism destinations and related business ventures, workshops and business meetings on investments, joint ventures, tours and other tourism-related prospects.
During the opening yesterday, Tourism Secretary Mina Gabor spoke on the strategic role of the Philippines in global tourism, the role of tourism in Philippine economic development and the enormous prospects of the tourism industry in the country.
