CENTENNIAL FREEDOM TRAIL ON TARGET
Manila, Jan. 28, 1998 - The Centennial Freedom Trail projects, worth P1.343 billion, are almost 80% complete and will be ready in time for the June 12 grand celebration of 100 years of Philippine Independence.
The assurance was given by the Department of Public Works and Highways, which called on Filipinos to visit these places which are "rich in historical importance and significance."
DPWH Region 3 director Edillo Montemayor said Filipinos who are now constrained by the currency crisis can still travel and visit centennial projects all over the Philippines, and at the same time fire up their sense of nationalism.
"These projects are so unique -- in historical and infrastructure engineering aspects -- because they are done in our first ever centennial celebration and we are doing it only once in our lifetime," he said.
Montemayor is overseeing work on the Philippine Centennial Exposition '98 site in Clark Field and the site of the Biak na Bato peace treaty.
