AIR PHILIPPINES FLIES TO GENSAN
General Santos City, Jan. 24, 1998 - This city's tourism potential was acknowledged last week by Air Philippines which has added General Santos City to its routes.
The inaugural flight from Manila to General Santos carried Air Philippines' top executives, Chairman Lisandro Abadia and Chief Executive Officer Augustus Paraiso.
The first flight showed off Air Philippines' Boeing 737. "There will be three more Boeing 737 aircraft to be delivered this year for our fleet's upgrading," Abadia announced.
At present, Air Philippines has a fleet of six Boeing 737-200 jets and three YS-11 turboprops. The expected purchase of three B-737's from United Airlines will bring up the airline's fleet to eleven modern jets.
Chairman Abadia remains confident despite the ongoing currency crisis. "We believe that business prospects for this year remains bullish for the airline industry," he said.
Air Philippines expects to fly to two more destinations this year: Cagayan de Oro City and Tacloban City.
