PAGSANJAN FLUVIAL PROCESSION JAN. 25
Pagsanjan, Laguna, Jan. 22, 1998 - The whole town is preparing for thousands of local and foreign tourists who are expected to flock to this town for the annual fluvial procession on Sunday.
This year, the procession, held in honor of St. Sebastian, will be held on Sunday, January 25 along the famous and scenic Pagsanjan River.
The tradition of offerings to St. Sebastian is to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest or to seek a better harvest in the coming year. Many also offer prayers for the forgiveness of sins or for past favors granted.
Legend has it that a Pagsanjan fisherman found a 10-inch bust of San Sebastian in the Pagsanjan River and brought it to the church of Pagsanjan, where it became enshrined as the town's patron saint.
For the special celebration, La Corona de Pagsanjan Resort Hotel offers one-day and two-day packages that include shooting the rapids and a tour of the town, plus a vantage position for viewing the fluvial procession up close.
