BAGUIO FLOWER FESTIVAL, A STREET CARNIVAL
Baguio City, Jan. 18, 1998 - "Panagbenga 1998" is the theme of this year's Baguio Flower Festival, which will attract hundreds of thousands to the country's summer capital next month.
A banner painting contest Feb. 15 will usher in the festivities, which will be highlighted by the much-anticipated floral parade on February 21.
Session Road will be closed to traffic from February 26-28 and converted to an open-air market with sidewalk cafés, bistros, rolling flower carts, free musicals, concerts and roaming artists.
"This year's Flower Festival is designed to go beyond the promotion of the cutflower industry. It will be a Mardi Gras, a carnival where people from all walks of life will converge on Session Road to see and be seen, to promenade and dance in the streets," said a proud Baguio resident as her family prepares costumes for a hundred people to dress up as a field of daisies for the parade.
