BULING-BULING STREET DANCING TODAY
Manila, Jan. 17, 1998 - Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim will lead Pandacan residents in showing off their folk dancing prowess as the annual "Buling-Buling" procession wends its way through the streets of Pandacan this afternoon.
The Pandacan fiesta's Hermano Mayor, Manila Vice Mayor Lito Atienza, has invited the Bayanihan Dance Company, the Cultural Center of the Philippines Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philippine Ballet Company to perform throughout the week-long festivities.
Also scheduled are showings of the centennial movie of Noli Me Tangere and a beauty contest to search for "Mutya ng Pandacan."
Buling-Buling Festival is a revival of the local rituals of songs and dances originating in the 1800s. It involves townsfolk dressed in traditional Pilipino costumes dancing in merriment accompanied by guitars and brass bands while following the procession of the Sto. Nino, the district's patron saint.
The procession and street dancing begin at 3:00 p.m.
