RP REOPENING TORONTO TOURISM OFFICE
Manila, Jan. 15, 1998 - The Department of Tourism is re-activating its Toronto office early this year as a result of soaring traffic from Toronto to Manila.
Tourism Secretary Mina Gabor told NEWSFLASH editor Sol Vanzi yesterday that Canada is a fast-growing source of Philippine inbound traffic, and that the bulk of Canadian arrivals in the past three years has originated from Toronto and Vancouver.
Gabor said the plan to revive the Toronto tourism office was hailed by Canadian officials.
"They said such development would boost the bid of the Philippines to capture a bigger share of the pie that has been consistently enjoyed by Thailand, Japan and Korea," Gabor said.
The tourism department plans to post marketing representatives in Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal before the office is reopened.
Secretary Gabor recently led a tourism sales and investment promotion tour of Toronto and Vancouver. The 29-member Philippine team conducted roadshows co-sponsored by Philippine Airlines.
