PALAWAN'S TABON CAVES AS TOURIST ATTRACTION
Puerto Princesa City, Jan. 14, 1998 - The famous Tabon Caves, where Dr. Robert Fox unearthed the prehistoric remains of the Tabon Man, will be developed this year as a major tourist attraction.
Inside the caves, considered the birthplace of Philippine Man, will be a small museum and viewing decks. A wharf will be constructed for boats that will ferry tourists.
Mayor Wenceslao de las Alas of Quezon town, where the caves are located, said the Department of Tourism has finally included the historical site in the list of tourist attractions that will undergo repair under the Short and Medium Term Tourism Development Program for Southern Tagalog.
The DOT has contracted a private company to prepare the tourism master plan for the area, including the discreet lighting of the caves to avoid accidents. The lights will be hidden behind rocks and trees to blend naturally with the surroundings.
So far, more than 100 caves have been discovered in Tabon, but only a few can be explored by tourists.
