PAL EXTENDS HK-CLARK WEEKLY CHARTER
Clark Field, Jan. 11, 1998 - Philippine Airlines has extended its weekly charter service between Hong Kong and Clark International Airport for another 12 weeks.
The charters, which began last October 4, were intended to run only for the duration of the Christmas holidays with the last flight supposed to have flown December 29, 1997.
"It proved to be very popular and a highly successful venture, so we decided to let the charter run until March 31, 1998," said David Lim, PAL regional vice president for Northeast Asia. "Hopefully, we can upgrade it soon to regular scheduled flights."
Clark has become a popular weekend destination for Hong Kong residents, who are lured by the casino's gaming tables, Mimosa's championship golf course and the duty-free shops of the former US Air Force base.
The charter uses wide-body Airbus A300 planes with 244-passenger capacity. It leaves Hong Kong Saturday morning and returns to Hong Kong Monday morning. The charters are in coordination with Mimosa Leisure Estate, which handles land arrangements and accommodations of all the passengers.
