RP READY FOR CENTENNIAL VISITORS -- GABOR
Manila, Jan. 10, 1998 - The Philippines is ready to receive foreign dignitaries, tourists and homecoming Filipinos expected to join the Philipine Independence Centennial celebrations.
Department of Tourism Secretary Mina Gabor announced yesterday that the national government, local government units, private organizations and the citizenry have joined hands in refurbishing historical landmarks and milestones and prettying up the countryside to showcase all that is truly Filipino: friendly, beautiful and inspiring.
Plans and actions have been carried out to place the tourism industry at the forefront of the growth and development agenda of the administration. Progress was accelerated by a policy of liberalization, facilitation, open trade, regional cooperation and global acceptance and standardization, Secretary Gabor said.
Because of intensive and maximized use of manpower and facilities, the Philippines is now ripe and ready for the influx of an expected 2.5 to 3 million visitors for 1998, a feat that's not considered impossible, said Secretary Gabor.
