SUBIC TOURISM NEEDS SKILLED WORKERS
Olongapo City, Jan. 9, 1998 - The Technical Education and School Development Authority (Tesda) predicts a shortage in the labor forces of various tourism-related businesses in the Subic Bay Freeport.
Manuel Wong, Tesda provincial supervisor, said the labor lack should be addressed immediately in order that the residents of areas around the Freeport could take advantage of the employment opportunities offered by tourism-oriented investments inside the former US Navy Base.
Wong said Subic, as a major tourist and industrial destination, should be prepared for this eventuality. He noted that of the 14 technical-vocational schools in Zambales province, only two offer Hotel and Restaurant Management courses while the computer schools need to upgrade their facilities and standards of teaching.
