INTERNATIONAL FLIGHTS TO SUBIC REACH 21 WEEKLY
Subic Freeport, Jan. 9, 1998 - Subic is now directly accessible by chartered flights from Fukuoka, Japan; Kuala Lumpur; Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching in Malaysia and Taipei and Kaoshung in Taiwan.
By the end of 1997, the number of chartered flights direct to Subic from foreign cities had reached 21 weekly, a sharp jump from 7 charters a week in 1996.
According to Subic Chairman Richard Gordon, foreign tourist arrivals in Subic reached 78,945 in the first ten months of 1997, an increase of 81.76% over the 43,433 visitors registered in 1996.
The airlines flying directly to Subic at present are: China Air Lines, Dragon Air, Astro Air, Japan Air System, Air Asia, Far Eastern Air Transport, Grand Air and Great China Airlines.
Gordon said the increase in flight frequency would hasten the emergence of Subic as a premiere tourist destination in the Asia-Pacific region.
