SPAIN'S KING AND QUEEN TO ATTEND CENTENNIAL
Manila, Jan. 7, 1998 - King Juan Carlos and Queen Sophia of Spain have accepted the invitation to participate in the Philippine Independence Centennial celebrations in June.
The National Centennial Commission confirmed the acceptance by the Spanish Royal Couple of the invitation to the event, which will be a historic and emotional experience for them considering their country's role in Philippine history.
The Philippines observes this year the Declaration of Independence from Spain, which the Filipinos announced to the world on June 12, 1898 after a brief revolution that ended nearly 400 years of Spanish colonial rule in the country.
