RP FLOAT WINS AGAIN IN ROSE PARADE
Los Angeles, Jan. 4, 1998 - For the second consecutive year, the Philippine entry to the famous Tournament of Roses won the award for being the Most Beautiful International Float.
The two-section entry designated as "Welcome To Our Celebration" reflected the centennial of the country's independence and was described by viewers as "stunning in its design, motif and intricate details as to be deeply moving."
DOT Secretary Mina Gabor, who was in Pasadena for the event, immediately phoned President Ramos to inform him of the country's victory.
The Philippines first joined the Tournament of Roses parade with a float entry last year and won as "Most Beautiful Float from Outside the USA" with a motif that showcased the Filipino's penchant for music, arts and hospitality.
The Philippine float was the only entry officially sponsored by a foreign government. Other foreign entries were sponsored by the Kiwanis, Lions, Rotary, China Airlines and Thai Airways.
