SWEDISH KING TO LEAD 31,000 SCOUTS AT CLARK
Clark Field, Jan. 4, 1998 - Sweden's King Carl Gustav XVI will lead foreign delegations from 140 countries to the Philippine Centennial Scout Jamboree which opens Monday at Clark Field. The Swedish monarch is an active scouter, and will be in the Philippines on a state visit.
President Ramos will officially open the jamboree at 8 a.m. and address the 31,000 scouts and scouters from 140 member-countries of the World Organization of Scout Movement, including delegations from 102 local councils of the Boy Scouts of the Philippines.
The jamboree is the first official activity highlighting the celebration of 100 years of Philippine independence. The jamboree site is one kilometer away from the Expo Filipino area where the main activities of the /centennial will be held starting April 30.
