ASIAN GAMES BASKETBALL TEAM PICKED
Manila, Jan. 31, 1998 - Head coach Tim Cone yesterday announced his pick of 18 cagers for the pool of players who will form the Philippine Centennial Dream Team to represent the country in the Bangkok Asian Games in December. Only 12 will make the final lineup.
At the top of the list are four of the PBA's tallest centers: Bonel Balingit, Marlou Aquino, Eduard Joseph Feihl and Andy Seigle. Next come four from the Alaska Milk team: Johnny Abarrientos, Bong Hawkins, Jojo Lastimosa and Kenneth Duremdes.
The others who made it to the initial list are: San Miguel's Nelson Asaytono and Olden Racially, Gordon's Vince Hizon, Sta. Lucia's Jun Limpot and Dennis Espino, Pop Cola's Vergel Meneses, Purefoods' Jerry Cordinera and Alvin Patrimonio, Mobiline's Jeffrey Cariaso and Shell's Victor Pablo.
Cone considered three criteria in choosing the players. "First is size, next is the ability to get along with everybody and willingness to undertake the hard work that lies ahead," Cone said.
