CURRENCY CRISIS FORCES FOOTBALL SQUADS OUT
Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Jan. 6, 1998 - Asia's crippling currency problem has forced many foreign teams to pull out from the international football meet which is being held at the Sand Luis Sports Village in this town.
Philippine Football Federation executive VP Jose Mari Martinez announced yesterday that foreign teams which had earlier confirmed their participation in the football jamboree withdrew at the last minute.
Martinez said that besides the currency problem, some teams had difficulties securing visas. Teams from the Middle East and other Muslim countries in Asia could not participate because the sports meet coincides with the observance of the holy month of Ramadan.
