SAN MIGUEL KEEPS CAIDIC, SHUNS ILDEFONSO
Manila, Jan. 3, 1998 - Allan Caidic has scrapped plans to leave the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and join the new league Metropolitan Basketball Association (Metroball).
Instead, the PBA's former 3-point king agreed to a one-year contract with San Miguel Beer. The amount of the contract has not been made public. Caidic once scored the most points in a game with 79 points.
Meanwhile, Beermen coach Ron Jacobs denied reports that Formula Shell's top rookie pick, Danny Ildefonso, had already been traded to San Miguel. Jacobs said the team refused to trade their Fil-Am star Choy Castillo and top defensive player Freddie Abuda.
"That would be giving away too much," Jacobs said of the proposed acquisition of Ildefonso in exchange for two of his top boys.
