PESO PLUNGE DELAYS PBL CONFERENCE
Manila, Jan. 2, 1998 - There are reports that the currency crisis could force the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) to rearrange its format and postpone the use of imported cagers by nine months.
Sports writer Peter Atencio of the Manila Standard writes that PBL organizers are contemplating re-scheduling the staging of its import-laced Reinforced Conference to October from February because the peso's depreciation has made it more costly to acquire foreign players for the league.
Instead, the 1998 All-Filipino Conference could be moved to February for budgetary reasons, according to Atencio's sources.
