$1.5-M PURSE FOR ESPINOSA TITLE DEFENSE
Manila, Jan 2, 1998 - Luisito Espinosa will not be suing the promoters of his last title fight against Argentine challenger Carlos Rios in Koronadal, South Cotabato, despite their continued failure to come across with the $130,000 balance of his $150,000 expected bounty.
"It is not true that I will sue them. We've seen President Ramos, who gave them 6 weeks to submit a report. The President is still waiting for the report," Espinosa said.
President Ramos had ordered Games and Amusements Board chairman Dominador Cepeda and South Cotabato Governor Hilario de Pedro to submit a report on the non-payment of Espinosa's prize money.
Espinosa will be defending his World Boxing Council title in Las Vegas for $1.5 million per bout. His first match will be a non-title undercard on March 1.
He is training for the unification slugfest which will pit him against World Boxing Organization title-holder Naseem Hamed.
