TAX INCENTIVE FOR HEROES' BIO-FLICKS
Manila, Jan. 30, 1998 - Rep. Tessie Aquino-Oreta is proposing a new movie tax law that would give tax rebates to producers making movies on the lives of Philippine heroes.
Oreta, who is running for senator in the LAMMP ticket of Vice President Joseph Estrada, made the proposal to ease the burden of film outfits which normally do not find quality films profitable.
The proposal is made in time for the Philippine Centennial celebrations, which she said is a good opportunity for the movie industry to impart good values, by producing movies on the lives of men and women who fought for freedom and democracy instead of films on the lives of criminals as had been a trend in the past..
"Our youth has neglected the greatness of Filipino heroes as their attention is now focused on technological advancements," she said.
She suggested that the incentives could be initiated by the Philippine Centennial Commission.
