SHOWBIZ LAND'S POLITICAL ASPIRANTS

Manila, Jan. 25, 1998 - Show Biz stars are going for politics now that they are growing older and their movies and showbiz careers are waning. Here is a list of the aspirants.

Following the footsteps of former showbiz actor Joseph (Erap) Estrada who is the opposition's candidate for President are Robert Jaworski as vice-presidential running mate of Richard Gordon; Edu Manzano for vice-mayor of Makati; Rudy Fernandez against Mayor Mel Mathay of Quezon City; up for re-elections are, San Juan Mayor Jinggoy Estrada; Pampanga Gov Lito Lapid, Caloocan Mayor Rey Malonzo, and Paranaque Mayor Joey Marquez. Mayor Marquez is also thinking of a second option to run for Congress instead. Cavite Gov Bong Revilla is running for governor of the province. Philip Salvador is still considering to run for mayor of Mandaluyong and Tito Sotto is in the LAMMP ticket for the senate.

In the recent news also are Nora Aunor speculating a run for the Senate. She was previously courted by the LAKAS party as a senatorial bid but opted out to join and support Erap Estrada of the opposition. Vilma Santos is also toying the idea of running as mayor of her husband's hometown town in Batangas.
