BONG REVILLA LINKED TO GUN SMUGGLING
Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Jan. 15, 1998 - Bureau of Customs officials said yesterday that Cavite Vice Governor Bong Revilla is not yet off the hook over his involvement in smuggling of gun parts into the country.
Revilla was implicated by two members of his staff who travelled with him to California last September and came back with five boxes of assorted parts for UZI machine guns, 9MM and .45 caliber pistols and super .38 caliber pistols. During their interrogation, the two admitted that Revilla owned the five boxes.
Customs officials became more suspicious when Revilla's brother Marlon and an alleged NBI agent tried to take the five boxes out of the customs zone. Marlon had personally requested for a VIP pass to enter the restricted area and claim the boxes.
Bong Revilla denied knowing the arrested alleged smugglers, but records showed they travelled to California together and the two are employees of Cavite province, hired on Bong's recommendation.
