FPJ FILM MAKES P8-M ON OPENING DAY
Manila, Jan. 12, 1998 - The King of Philippine movies did it again. On opening day, Fernando Poe Jr.'s movie "Ang Pagbabalik ng Probinsiyano" grossed P8 million in spite of the fact that it opened on the same day as the latest 007 flick "Tomorrow Never Dies" and Walt Disney's "Flubber."
The box office gross could have been bigger, but FPJ chose not to jack up ticket prices, unlike the James Bond flick which charged P35 instead of the normal P30 for orchestra.
Viva expects "Pagbabalik" to overtake the Metro Manila earnings of the first "Probinsiyano" and it would not surprise the movie industry if it grosses more than P60 million.
The movie is also due for showing at the Wallace Theater in Guam. Viva has just concluded an agreement with Mr. Ted Neri of Guam's Rainbow Productions which will market it to the large Filipino community in Guam.
