Malacanang, Jan. 22, 1998 - President Ramos welcomed members of the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America (SPSA) who called on him before embarking on a five-day medical mission in Dagupan, Pangasinan and Batac, Ilocos Norte.
The President urged the group to reach out to residents of the country's 20 poorest provinces through more medical missions.
"Our people in far-flung areas await our generosity. They need your help and expertise," the president said.
The SPSA delegation is composed of 40 doctors in various fields of specialization and 20 paramedics. Chairman Dr. Daniel Fabito of the SPSA committee on missions said the free clinics for impoverished Filipinos is their way of sharing their blessings as well as a means of helping the Ramos administration in improving the health conditions in the rural areas.
