Batasang Pambansa, Jan. 13, 1998 - A new province has been created in Mindanao and will be part of a new agri-business belt that will utilize the full economic potentials of the South.
House of Representatives Speaker Jose de Venecia announced the creation of Compostela province, separating towns in Compostela Valley from the original province of Davao del Norte.
Compostela will be the Philippines' 79th province and will be made up of the municipalities of Monkayo, Montevista, Laak, New Bataan, Compostela, Maragusan, Nabunturan, Mawab, Maco, Manini and Pantukan.
Davao del Norte will now be composed of the towns of Tagum, Asuncion, Kapalung, New Corella, Talainggod, Samal and Kaputian.
