Davao City, Jan. 12, 1998 - Fifteen barangays in Davao del Norte were submerged in floods last week, forcing the evacuation of thousands of families.
The Office of Civil Defense reported that the towns of Asuncion and Compostela were affected by the flood spawned by heavy rains. The two towns are classified as among the 14 that are flood-prone.
The floodwaters took more than 48 hours to subside. Residents of flooded barangays, who sought shelter in public school buildings, returned to their homes when the water level receded.
