Davao City, Jan. 9, 1998 - The government has ordered a moratorium on all mining and mining-related activities at Mt. Diwalwal, the gold rush area in Monkayo, Davao del Norte.
The moratorium will enable the miners to secure mining licenses, permits and other requisites provided for under Republic Act 7076, also called the Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991.
At present, the miners have neither environmental clearances nor mining plans.
The moratorium will be in effect until such time that the miners shall have complied with appropriate protection measures and mining safeguards.
