Dumaguete City, Jan. 7, 1998 - Cloud seeding over Negros produced enough rain to save around 300 hectares of corn and other crops which were in danger of drying up.
The cloud seeding operation conducted by the National Rain Stimulation office last month allowed many Negros towns to take a breather from the dry spell caused by the El Nino phenomenon.
The government said the 8-hour rains were enough to provide relief for 120 days.
Thee El Nino-induced drought has ruined 900 hectares of corn in Basay, Bayawan and Siaton, and caused three deep wells in Bacong to dry up.
