Las Pinas City, Jan. 7, 1998 - When the school year begins in June, Las Pinas high school graduates will no longer need to commute to Manila for a college education; they can get it in Las Pinas for free.
Las Pinas Mayor Vergel Aguilar announced yesterday that the Las Pinas City College, now under construction, will be finished in time for the opening of classes in June 1998.
The city government is allotting an initial P23 million for the construction of the school building on a government lot at Golden Gate Subdivision in Barangay Talon.
The college will initially have 25 classrooms which will gradually expand to meet the growing need for free college education among city residents.
The city college will initially offer courses in business administration, accounting, management, banking and finance, computer science and other business courses.
Initially, only 1,000 students will be admitted. Priority for admission will be given to students from poor families.
