AVON BUILDS P1-BILLION PLANT IN LAGUNA
Calamba, Laguna, Jan. 31, 1998 - Avon, the world's largest direct seller of beauty and related products, is constructing a new P1-billion manufacturing facility in the home town of national hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
Avon president for Asia-Pacific Jose Ferreira told newsmen that there are no changes in the company's expansion plans. "We have utmost confidence that all this is temporary, and that the different economies in the region will soar once again," he said.
Trade and Industry Secretary Cesar Bautista said the fact that the Philippines belongs to the top 10 Avon networks all over the world is a "shining testimony to the Filipinos' world-class and global competitiveness."
The new plant, for which ground breaking rites were held last week, will sit on a seven-hectare area within the Calamba Premiere International Park, an industrial zone located along the South Expressway. About one third of the output of 100 million units is earmarked for export.
