BORACAY PARAW REGATTA IN FEBRUARY
Boracay Island, Dec. 23, 1997 - An entire weekend of water sports and art will liven up the entire resort island of Boracay in February.
The Fourth Annual Boracay Paraw Regatta will be held from Feb. 21-23, 1998, to coincide with and International Arts Festival.
The sailboat race will use indigenous wind-powered fishing boats called "paraw" which use bamboo outriggers.
Fishermen from various coastal communities around the island will man the sailboats. For the first time, an all-woman team from the Manila Yacht Club will join the competition.
More than 5,000 visitors and tourists are expected to visit Boracay specifically for the festival.
