WORLD'S LONGEST XMAS AT PASKUHAN VILLAGE
San Fernando, Pampanga, Dec. 21, 1997 - The Filipino tradition of celebrating the world's longest Christmas season is upheld and even surpassed at a unique exhibition site, the only one of its kind in Asia and one of only three in the whole world.
Pampanga's Paskuhan Village, now renamed Christmas Village, was conceptualized by Tourism Secretary Mina Gabor and built during the Aquino administration. Sprawled on 4.3 hectares, the P72-million exhibit and display village provides local manufacturers, exporters, restaurants and leisure facility operators an opportunity to display and sell their wares in a year-round Christmas holiday setting and atmosphere.
Resembling a giant star-shaped "parol" of Christmas lantern from above, the village has become a showcase for the world's yuletide cuisine, decor and festivities. Daily, no matter what day of the year, one can count on seasonal puto bumbong, bibingka, noche buena and media noche food, as well as Norwegian and other foreign yuletide gift packages and Christmas tree decor.
Balikbayan and returning Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) relish the idea of being able to experience a truly Filipino Christmas even when they come home in May, July, or any month of the year.
