CLARK BUILDS BARASOAIN CHURCH REPLICA
Clark Field, Dec. 19, 1997 - Clark guests and Pampanga residents are attending Simbang Gabi at a new church that is an exact replica of the historic Barasoain Church, an important landmark in the proclamation of Philippine Independence in 1898.
The traditional first mass at 5 a.m. started with Spanish Ambassador to the Philippines Delfin Colome and National Centennial Commission Chairman Salvador Laurel as main guests. The mass is the first activity of the centennial celebrations.
The church replica was built in only 20 days using a new construction technology. The altar, pews and furniture are all authentic antiques from the Santuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park. Other antique furnishings, furniture and paintings as were as chandeliers and the stations of the cross are from noted collector Viring de Asis.
