NEW BATAAN PORT TO BOOST TOURISM
Balanga, Bataan, Dec. 15, 1997 - Travellers to Bataan will soon be able to drive their vehicles into a roll-on-roll-off (RORO) ferry boat in Manila and drive off at Orion to continue their trip in land.
Bataan Governor Leonardo Roman announced that the P200-million Port of Orion will open early next year, with modern facilities to accommodate the RORO vehicular ferries now gaining popularity in the Visayas and Bicol regions.
"The Manila-Bataan ferry boat services have opened the eyes of foreign investors to the bright prospects of Bataan as an ideal site for industries. The ferries cut down travel time between Manila and Bataan and made the province a gateway for Zambales and western Pampanga," Roman said.
Japanese shipping executives have told Roman of their plans to operate at least two RORO ships daily ith a capacity of 40 vehicles each, with travel time of 1 hour, thirty minutes each way.
