BIKOL PASTORES FESTIVAL IN LEGASPI DEC. 18
Legaspi City, Dec. 13, 1997 - The unique Christmas traditions of the Bicol region will be on view all along the main streets of Legaspi City next week, when the Department of Tourism and the various local government units host the "Bikol Pastores Festival."
"Pastores" are young boys and girls, from 12 years old down, colorfully attired in appropriate costumes according to their chosen performances.
The "pastores" interpret in song and dance the shepherds' rejoicing at the birth of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem on the first Christmas night two thousand years ago.
DOT Regional Director Pilar Hilario explained that 12 dancing performers are required to execute each traditional "Pastores A Belen" song-dance number. The "pastores" will sing their own compositions, making the program a real showcase of native musical talent.
Traditional "musikeros" will accompany the performances.
