SUBIC-TAIPEI DIRECT FLIGHTS ON
Subic Bay Freeport, Dec. 12, 1997 - Direct flights from Taipei to Subic began this week, a sure sign that tourism is becoming a very strong money-maker for the former U.S. Naval base.
Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman Richard Gordon led freeport volunteers in welcoming China Airlines 737. "We re elated that there now are direct flights from the capital of Taiwan, in addition to the four daily flights from the province of Kaoshiung," Gordon said.
The influx of tourists, Gordon noted, will not only mean more jobs and tourism-oriented opportunities, but help the economy as well through the inflow of dollars.
"When they visit Subic, the foreign tourists will also discover other tourist attractions of the Philippines," Gordon added.
A direct Hong Kong-Subic service will begin December 16, on a weekly basis increasing to thrice weekly by January.
