AIRCON JEEPNEYS LAUNCHED

Makati City, Dec. 8, 1997 - The days of uncomfortable, dusty and hot passenger jeepneys are numbered. Air-conditioned jeepneys have started plying the streets, and are well received by commuters and tourists alike.

The aircon jeepneys were launched by the Makati Jeepney Operators and Drivers Alliance which also helped design the 22-seater vehicles.

The aircon jeepneys were first used during the APEC summit meeting in Manila last year. It took the MJODA several months to get its franchise from the Land Transportation Office and operate the jeepneys are commercial passenger public utility vehicles.

Because of its large seating capacity, one aircon jeepney carriers twice as many passengers as two regular jeepneys, thereby helping ease traffic in Manila's crowded streets.
