TOURISTS FLOCK TO INTRAMUROS FLEA MARKET
Manila, Dec. 8, 1997 - Thousands of local and foreign tourists have been flocking to the Christmas flea market at the Asean Garden Village on Puerta del Parian, in front of the Lyceum University in Intramuros.
The colorful Mecca of bargains is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily, and is a cooperative venture of the Intramuros Administration and the Department of Tourism.
Before, during and after perusing the wide array of merchandise, shoppers have a chance to meander through historic Intramuros which is now being restored to its old grandeur.
The site of the flea market is adjacent to the official gate used by the Spanish governor general following the British occupation of Manila in 1762-1764. The Asean Gardens is a village of trees, plants and flowers from all the member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
