"SINADYA" MARKS ROXAS CITY FIESTA
Roxas City, Dec. 6, 1997 - Roxas City residents welcome thousands of local and foreign tourists this weekend as the city celebrates the 290th anniversary of Our Lady of Immaculate Concepcion parish.
From December 5 to 8, the Sinadya festival will observe a centuries-old tradition of colorful rituals and merrymaking showcasing the Capizeno way of life, reverence for religion and the picturesque tourist attractions of the birthplace of President Manuel Roxas, first president of the Philippine Republic.
The city will wake up daily to the music of roving brass bands, a tradition referred to as Diana. Throughout the weekend, there will be games such as Hampang sa Fiesta-Juego de Anillo, and a trade fair offering products of the city and the province of Capiz. All day and all night there will be dancing in the streets.
Among the local traditions that can be observed during the fiesta is the "Comparza" which is an original art form wherein a story is narrated through graceful movements and dance.
Other highlights of the weekend are a Seafood Festival, a grand parade of giant papier mache giant figures and a fluvial procession on the Panay River.
