NEGROS TO PRESERVE COASTAL PARADISE
Bacolod City, Dec. 3, 1997 - Southern Negros Occidental boasts of white beaches, pristine waters, scenic coves, unspoiled islets and colorful marine life. And if Governor Rafael Cosculluela could have his way, the province will retain all its natural beauty forever.
Cosculluela has launched a program that would preserve and rehabilitate the area's ecosystems, particularly where there are undeveloped natural wonders still untapped as potential tourist attractions.
The Southern Negros Coastal Development Program will protect, rehabilitate and safeguard coastal areas in the southern portions of the province. the program is being implemented by the Southern Negros Coastal Management Council composed of mayors of the towns of Cauayan, Hinoba-an, Ilog and Sipalay, and the City of Kabankalan.
The council will rehabilitate, protect and conserve the three major interconnected ecosystems of coral reefs, sea grass beds and mangrove areas, and the beaches, shorelines, mud flats and estuaries found within the coastal strips and wetlands of the area.
