INTERNATIONAL TEAMS JOIN LAGUNA SOCCER MEET
Sta. Cruz, Laguna, Dec. 29, 1997 - More than 300 teams from all over the country and 13 squads from Taipei, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore will slug it out in the Laguna Cup Asian International Youth Soccer Jamboree.
The week-long soccer meet begins January 3, and will be held at the newly-refurbished 14-hectare San Luis Memorial Sports Complex grounds. Matches will be held simultaneously in 22 fields.
Laguna will be represented by 200 teams whose members were chosen from 29 towns and supported by their respective mayors with the help of private firms.
The National Capital Region will field 40 squads from the NCAA, UAAP and from public schools. There will be 28 teams from Central Luzon and 16 from the Bicol Region. Other provinces will send one team each.
Foreign teams will come from Taipei (5), Hong Kong (4), Malaysia (2) and Singapore (2).
