PBL FIRM ON SUING PBA DRAFTEES
Manila, Dec. 25, 1997 - Philippine Basketball League players with live contracts who entered the Philippine Basketball Association rookie draft will definitely face court charges.
PBL commissioner Yeng Guiao stressed that under the Uniform Players Contract of the PBL, players with live contracts are "prohibited from attempting, threatening to play or negotiating for the purpose of playing during the term of agreement for any other person or firm.
"What they (the draftees) did is already a plain and simple case of breach of contract," Guiao said.
Danny Ildefonso, Agfa contract player, was Shell's top pick in last Monday's PBA drafting, although his contract with Agfa is good until December 1998.
Other PBL teams with players who joined the PBA draft are: Dazz and Chowking.
